Sale Report for CARLISLE FESTIVE FIREWORKS - FRIDAY 1ST DECEMBER 2023

Date of Sale: Friday 1st December 2023

Females from across the water led the trade at the Blue Texel Sheep Society’s offering at Harrison and Hetherington’s sheep fair on Friday, 1 December, where a top price of 3200gns was set.

Leading the way was Matt’s Gin Fizz (ET), a shearling ewe from Matthew Burleigh, Shanra, Enniskillen. Sired by the home-bred Matt’s Firetrap, a son of the renowned Drumard Ed and sire of progeny to 20,000gns, her dam is the Joe’s Alvin daughter, Hackney Caryl. Scanned with a pair to the 10,000gns Sams Houdini bought back in August, Gin Fizz was knocked down to Kevin Jones, Oswestry, for that 3200gns.

Continuing a strong trade for Irish raiders, Samantha Allen and Allen Shortt from Strabane, Castlederg, saw their dearest sell for 2800gns with two more at 2000gns. It was another by Matt’s Firetrap that led for the duo when Derg Gangsta Girl, which stood third in the pre-sale show, sold to C Roberts, Abergele, Conwy, for 2800gns. Scanned with a pair to the 20,000gns Beili Blue Hulk, she is out of the Cleenagh Alfonso-sired Derg Coco Chanel that stood champion at Balmoral Show in 2019.

First at 2000gns when sold to Dave Thompson, Tarrant Gunville, Blandford, was Derg Glamour Girl (ET) which was also scanned with twins to Beili Blue Hulk. Her pedigree features Beili Blue Euphoric while her dam is Derg Dakota, a Saltire Blue Caveman daughter.

Matching that 2000gns when snapped up by Stephanie Dick for her Stephick Flock near Stirling was Derg GingerSpice, another by Beili Blue Euphoric but this time out of the Saltire Blue Derek daughter, Derg Enigma. She changed hands scanned with twins to the 30,000gns Sunnybank Fergus.

A full sister to the 2000gns Glamour Girl ET in the shape of Derg Gaga made 1200gns when sold to Mark Oare, Brynford, Holywell, carrying a single to Sunnybank Fergus.

Hitting the 1900gns mark was Ashton Giavanna from IF Donaldson, from near Lockerbie, which sold to Tom Stayt, Chipping Norton, carrying a single to Ashton Hunters. Sired by Auchmantle Flying Scotsman, her dam is a Sams ewe by a Millside sire.

A few lots later, Kevin Watret’s Reserve Champion, Solway View Genie (ET), sold to Ben Whitham, Gilstead, Bingley, for 1600gns. A full sister to this year’s show gimmer, being by Matt’s Freedom and out of Solway View Daisy, she sold due with a single to the 7000gns Caryl’s Blues Hulk.

Kevin led the ewe lamb trade at 1200gns twice for a pair of full embryo sisters by Sunnybank Exchange Rate out of Solway View Dipsy. Mark Oare bought the first, Solway View Heart (ET), which stood second in her class, while Laura Beck, Halesworth, bought the second, Solway View Hale (ET), which won the ewe lamb class.

The second prize ewe led the senior trade when Tim Katy Coles’ Silson Fancypants (ET) sold to John Graham for his Burnbank Flock near Stirling. Due with her second crop to Silson Hacarr, this Caryl’s Blues Captain daughter is out of the Hackney X-Factor-sired Saltire Blue A Beauty.

At 1400gns was Jennifer Duncan’s Jems Gi Gi, a Palace Dodo daughter bred from an imported ewe. Scanned with a pair to Nantyderri Frankenstein, she joins Anita Padfield’s flock near Great Yarmouth.
