Sale Report:

Securing the leading price at the Blue Texel Sheep Society show and Sale at Melton Mowbray was a shearling ewe and shearling ram both selling at 1000gns.

First to sell at that price was a shearling ewe entry from Heather Timms, Brandon Flock. Securing a first place rosette in the shearling ewe class as well as being tapped out as female and Overall Reserve Champion was Brandon Godiva, a daughter of Dulas Comet and out of a home-bred ewe named Bradnon Dotty. She was successfully sold to CA Jessop and Sons, Coalville, Leicestershire.

The Overall Champion was next to take joint top price, consigned by Robert Mawer and Emma Benge from their Premier Flock. Premier Guiness, which also took first place in the shearling ram class and male champion, is sired by Saltire Blue Extreme and out of a Whatmore dam. Guiness was knocked down to SA Liverton and TJ Carter, Thuxton, Norwich.

Selling at 700gns was an aged ram who was in the joint ownership of the Brothertoft and Premier Flocks. Saltire Blue Extreme, which is a son of Saltire Blue Cassanova and out of Saltire Blue A Beauty, was purchased by the judge, Dave Thornley.

Two shearling ewes were next selling for 600gns, both from Miss Grace Sercombe and her Bubblegum Flock. First up was a Turbo Blue-sired ewe, which is out of a home-bred Bubblegum ewe and sold to CA Jessop and Sons, Coalville, Leicestershire.

The second shearling ewe from the Bubblegum Flock received a third prize rosette in the pre-sale judging. This ewe was also sired by Turbo Blue and out of a Bubblegum ewe. She now joins David Scarborough’s Simply Blue Flock.

The sale included the dispersal sale of the Williams Flock on behalf of H and A Clarke. The top price was paid for an aged ewe, Williams Eliza, which sold for 850gns. This was a daughter of Jonsland Xcess out of a home-bred ewe named Williams Chelsea. She sold to MR Peters and Sons, Sawtry, Cambridgeshire.
